Consumer stocks were mixed in late Monday trading, with shares of consumer staples companies in the S&P 500 falling about 0.3% while shares of consumer discretionary firms in the S&P 500 were posting a 0.3% advance. In company news, Central Garden & Pet Co (CENT) was swinging between small gains and losses Monday afternoon, most recently climbing about 0.3% after the specialty retailer today disclosed its purchase of premium pet supplies producer K&H Manufacturing for an undisclosed amount.
K&H also sells patented heating and cooling products for dogs and cats as well as small animals and farm livestock. The K&H management team will be staying with the combined businesses, Central Garden said today. CENT Class A shares were up about 0.2% in late trade, or roughly mid-way in the stock’s Monday range of $37.56 to $38.21 a share.
